The handsome, civilised streets of Amsterdam and The Hague provide the setting for one of our most exciting art tours. Flemish & Dutch Painting celebrates art in the Low Countries from the 15th to the 17th centuries, and detours into the late 1800s to consider Van Gogh.
In Belgium, several of the most important works hang in the churches for which they were originally commissioned, but in Holland museums have the starring role. Both the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and the Mauritshuis in The Hague have recently been renovated, and rank amongst the finest in Europe of their type. The former is home to an unrivalled collection of Dutch masters. The latter is smaller, but is made essential by masterpieces such as Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring.
